Carphone Warehouse had a problem. They had just acquired customer data from the buy-out of Phones4U, but they didn't know when any of these customers were due for an upgrade. And it seemed unlikely they could just ask for this key information.
We also found out a seemingly unrelated fact: Carphone Warehouse had a mountain of phonecases sitting in a warehouse (ironically), each worth about £3.
Now we had a value exchange – they tell us when they are due for an upgrade and we'll help their phone look its best until that date with a free case. We just needed to show the value in a phonecase.
While doing some research we discovered that 3 in 5 Britons drop their phone every day.

Each customer received a personalised email that brought our idea to life in a very Carphone Warehouse way.
After introducing the campaign, and showing off some handy phone-holding tips, customers were driven to a simple landing page.
Here they gave us a few details, including their upgrade date, and the new phonecase was delivered within the week.
And it even arrived in a personalised box.
